KEY SUBJECTS

Ontology

Those who know Tapsa know that he likes classical music, and especially going to concerts and operas. (Actually, Tapsa likes lots of things, and many of them are likely to get dragged into this blog as time goes on.)

Tapsa believes that subject-centric computing is the answer to the problems we all face in the Age of Information — the problems of how to find the information we need when we need it, and how to share knowledge across languages, cultures, and applications. That is why he is passionate about Topic Maps.

In this blog, Tapsa combines his passions while experimenting with the application of semantic technology to blogging. Tapsa's Concerts is a blog that has been going (on and off) for over 15 years (yes, long before the advent of Web 2.0). It is structured around a topic map that records comments on various musical events that Tapsa has attended.

What's special about it is not the comments — they are for the most part rather mundane. The interesting thing is the web of connections surrounding each blog entry, recording the program, the performers, the venue, and all their myriad interconnections.

This Web of Knowledge, encoded in the topic map, allows information in the blog to be found through simple search and very intuitive navigation, and allows it to be linked to other sources of knowledge about the same subjects.
